Council approves no-parking limits on Fairmont and Swigert; holds first reading on West David change

Kettering City Council on Feb. 11 approved two amendments to the city’s traffic control map aimed at easing access and improving safety, and held first reading on a related restriction on West David Road.
The council voted unanimously to rescind an older no-parking ordinance on Fairmont Avenue and replace it with a new rule that extends no-parking further south to Parkdale Street. The city’s engineering staff told council that the block of Fairmont south of Dorothy Lane to Parkdale is narrow and that school buses and emergency vehicles were experiencing difficulty navigating the roadway.
Council also approved a new no-parking restriction on Swigert Road, adding no parking on the outside (north) side of a sharp curve where parked vehicles have made navigation difficult, the engineering department said.
A third item, an ordinance to amend the traffic control map for the west end of West David Road where a cul-de-sac abuts NCR Country Club, was introduced in first reading. That item was presented as a first reading after residents raised concerns about contractor and other vehicle parking in the dead-end section; council did not vote on West David Road at this meeting.

Engineering staff said the Fairmont block and the Swigert curve are both constricted and that extending no-parking zones will improve ability for school buses and emergency response vehicles to pass safely. Council members asked engineering to confirm signage placement and notify nearby residents before installation.
The West David Road measure will return for a second reading and potential vote at a future meeting.
