Delaware County proclaims May 2025 Mental Health Awareness Month; local director urges support for behavioral health services

Brand said the month — observed since 1949 nationwide — focuses attention on the importance of mental health and the need for behavioral health services in the community. “While every person's story with mental illness is unique, there's no one size fits all onset recovery,” Brand said. “The one constant that we see in our system is the strength and resiliency it takes to recover.” She said stigma has long been discredited by science and stressed the role of local agencies, schools, businesses and residents in supporting prevention and recovery.
Commissioners thanked Brand and agency staff for their work and praised the county’s longstanding recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. The board approved resolution 25-345 recognizing May 2025 as Mental Health Awareness Month by unanimous vote.
Brand’s remarks and the proclamation emphasize awareness and community support; no new funding or program commitments were made during the meeting.
