The Delaware County Board of Commissioners approved a professional services agreement with Meacham and April Architects, doing business as MA Design, to complete Phase 2 design for renovation of the county facility at 2079 U.S. Route 23 North for the Board of Elections Willis Building.
John Melvin, director of facilities, said MA Design has completed detailed design and the new contract will produce construction documents, take the project to bid and provide construction administration. He said the contractor will work around election seasons and that the county expects design completion this summer. Melvin described phasing that will likely renovate the former Big Lots side after the November election and move warehouse and training uses as needed.
Melvin said the project includes exterior repairs โ parking lot, site lighting, facade improvements โ and internal changes including a separate exterior entrance for the record center and retention of the early vote center in its current conference-room location.
Commissioners approved resolution 25-347 unanimously. Melvin said staff have been prudent with the budget estimate and expect multi-phase construction timed to minimize disruption to election operations.
