County accepts Columbus Foundation donation to support Delaware County dog shelter vet care

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners voted April 3 to accept a monetary donation from the Columbus Foundation to help pay veterinary care costs for dogs at the county dog shelter.
Mitch Garrett, Delaware County dog warden, said the Columbus Foundation provides an annual monetary grant to offset veterinary expenses for animals that come into the shelter. "The Columbus Foundation helps us out with a monetary grant to help offset some of those costs for their vet care," Garrett said.
Garrett introduced Baxter, a shelter deputy dog who helps staff evaluate other dogs and assists on field calls. Garrett said the shelter had five dogs in custody at the time of the meeting and expected to take in seven more from an ongoing call. He described partnerships with rescues and the humane society that help place dogs so the shelter is not "flooded" and staff can respond to calls.
Commissioners recorded unanimous approval to accept the donation.
