Delaware County approves psychotropic drug reimbursement agreement for jail under Stepping Up initiative

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners on April 3 approved a psychotropic drug reimbursement funding agreement for fiscal year 2025 that county staff said helps cover mental-health and addiction medication costs for inmates.
Cassie Neff, criminal justice programs manager with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, described the program formerly known as the psychotropic drug reimbursement program. "The behavioral health drug reimbursement program formerly known as the psychotropic drug reimbursement is part of stepping up Ohio and helps cover count helps counties cover the cost of mental health and addiction recovery medications for inmates in jails and community based correctional facilities," Neff said.
Neff explained that reimbursements are allocated based on each jail or community-based correctional facility's share of the total request among participating facilities, reducing the county's out-of-pocket expenses. "This helps reduce the county's expenses and without this program, the county would have to cover the full cost of these medications," she said.
Neff also told the board about a local Stepping Up committee meeting held the same day and invited the public to a 3 p.m. event at the sheriff's office where two restored citizens were scheduled to speak about reentry and recovery work.
Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the FY25 funding agreement. There was no discussion of dollar amounts or the percentage reimbursement in the meeting record; staff described the program structure and community partners involved in local implementation.
