Delaware County proclaims National Agricultural Week; Farm Bureau highlights farms, broadband needs

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners on March 6, 2025 adopted a proclamation recognizing March 16–20, 2025 as National Agricultural Week in Delaware County and received remarks from Delaware County Farm Bureau leaders.
Mary Fleming, president of the Delaware County Farm Bureau, spoke for the group and presented gift baskets from county producers. Farm Bureau representatives noted that agriculture remains the county’s largest industry, citing seven dairy farms inside the county plus two on county lines, a large commercial hog operation and hundreds of acres in corn, soybeans and hay. Fleming said Farm Bureau programming includes workplace safety training, drought assistance coordination with county emergency personnel and a new health benefits plan for farmers; she also noted work on mental health outreach for producers.
Commissioners responded with thanks and took note of a broadband expansion project targeted to the northern part of the county; commissioners said improved broadband service is important for farmers and rural businesses. The board adopted Resolution 25‑164 to proclaim National Agricultural Week; the motion carried unanimously (Benton Aye; Lewis Aye; Merrill Aye).
