County recognizes Delaware County EMS crew for lifesaving response; Riverside presents award

Delaware County commissioners recognized Lieutenant Jess Bacari and Paramedic Will Kennedy on March 3 after OhioHealth Riverside selected the pair for a monthly EMS award for a complex patient case.
Jeff Fischel, director of EMS, introduced representatives from OhioHealth Riverside'Dr. Warren Yamrick (medical director, Riverside Emergency Department), Tina Salazzo (EMS outreach manager) and Todd Guthrie (EMS coordinator)'who presented the recognition.
According to the nomination read at the meeting, Delaware County Medic 11 responded to a 38-year-old woman reporting chest pain. Paramedics found the patient in supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) with heart rates in the 250s and were initially unable to obtain a blood pressure. The crew administered adenosine in doses of 6 mg, then 12 mg and another 12 mg without conversion; they then gave Versed and Zofran and performed a synchronized cardioversion, which converted the patient to normal sinus rhythm. Riverside staff praised the crew's prehospital care, documentation (pre- and post-EKG) and the stable condition of the patient on arrival.
"We feel that this coin represents and embodies the relationship and the partnership we have with our EMS partners," Tina Salazzo said when presenting challenge coins and a certificate.
The board and hospital representatives posed for photographs; the presentation also entered the recognized crew into consideration for EMS of the Year.
