County sets bid date for East Elm Creek interceptor rehabilitation, estimates $1.48 million

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners on March 3 approved a resolution (25-153) to set the bid date and time to receive bids for rehabilitation of the East Elm Creek interceptor sewer.
Tiffany Mag, director of environmental services, told the board the project covers about 4,500 feet of interceptor pipe along Africa Road from Jaycox near State Route 71 and is showing “pretty significant corrosion” after roughly 50 years in service. She reported an engineer's estimate of $1,477,000 and said the county expects the work itself to take just under five months but will offer contractors extra time in the bid documents to attract better pricing.
The commissioners voted to set the bid date and proceed: Barb Lewis and Gary Merrill both voted aye. No public comment was recorded on the item.
Mag said the county has installed sulfide-reduction (bioxide) systems at some pump stations to reduce corrosion in newer parts of the system but older interceptors lack that protection. The rehabilitation will include internal lining or replacement as specified in the contract documents prepared by county engineers.
The board did not set a construction start date in the meeting; staff indicated they expect the contract work period to be under five months once a contractor is selected.
