County parks Big Walnut Road project into two phases, moves forward with Tussock Street roundabout

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners approved Feb. 10 an amendment to a road project that splits the Big Walnut Road improvements at the Old 3 C and Tussock Street intersections into two phases and pauses the second phase.
Rob Bridal, chief deputy engineer, told the board the Tussock Street intersection must be built first because it has a higher priority for crash mitigation and, topographically, provides the drainage outlet needed for the Old 3 C intersection work.
"The Tussock Street has intersection has to be built first for, a number of reasons. First off, it's the higher priority in terms of crash mitigation. Secondly, from a topographic reason we have to build that first because that provides the drainage outlet for the old 3 C Intersection," Bridal said. The work will start just east of the Old 3 C intersection near the township driveway on Big Walnut Road and proceed eastward, he said.
Commissioners voted to amend the project and suspend work on phase B; the Tussock Street roundabout (phase A) will proceed. No schedule or budget revisions for phase B were provided at the meeting.
The amendment leaves future decisions on the second phase to the county’s engineering staff and future commission action.
