Delaware County commissioners approved a letter of support on Jan. 27 for grant applications to America250 Ohio, a statewide coordinating effort for the 250th anniversary, following a presentation from Donna Meyer of the Delaware County Historical Society.
"This is just the beginning in several grants that we're gonna apply for," said Donna Meyer, identified in the meeting as executive director of the Delaware County Historical Society and a committee chair. County officials said the county will submit multiple grant requests and that the letter signals county support for the committee's planning and activities.
A county representative said staff had been working with Chris Shell (off on leave) and that the committee is seeking county cooperation for a range of planned events and activities. "I fully support, this letter and, in whatever ways we can help out," one commissioner said during the discussion.
The board voted to approve resolution 25-71; President Barb Lewis and Commissioner Garen Merrill each voted "Aye." No dissenting votes were recorded on the transcript.
The meeting record does not list the specific grants or dollar amounts the committee will seek; staff said the approval is an initial step to enable subsequent grant applications and planning for America250 Ohio activities in the county.
