Delaware County approves short-term EMS health and pre-employment services with OhioHealth

Delaware County commissioners on Jan. 27 approved two short-term employer services agreements with OhioHealth to continue pre-employment physicals and employee-wellness services for Delaware County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Jeff Fischel, director of EMS for Delaware County, told commissioners the agreements keep in place medical screenings and on-site wellness professionals while a request for proposals (RFP) is finalized and a long-term vendor is selected.
Fischel said the contracts cover pre-employment physicals and an on-site registered dietitian, and a separate agreement covers an on-site exercise physiologist. "These agreements kind of, are are a short term, month by month basis, until we, do get the RFP finalized with a with a approved vendor," Fischel said. He also said the county has used OhioHealth for these services since about 2019 or early 2020.
Commissioners voted to approve both resolutions. President Barb Lewis and Commissioner Garen Merrill each voted "Aye." Commissioner Benton was noted as absent earlier in the meeting.
The board’s action maintains continuity of EMS screening and wellness services; Fischel said the short-term contracts will remain in place only until the RFP process is complete and a permanent vendor is chosen.
The agreements were presented as part of the board's consent/resolution items and were approved without further amendment.
Votes at the meeting recorded the motions as passed by the two commissioners present. The RFP timeline and the identity of any eventual vendor were not specified during the discussion.
