Commissioners schedule land bank applications for brownfield grants; meeting moves to executive session

Commissioner Jeff Benton said the Delaware County land bank will hold a quarterly meeting this week to review three proposed brownfield remediation applications — two in Ashley and one in the city of Delaware — so the county can be ready to submit competitive statewide grant applications when the Ohio Department of Development opens the program window.
"We're required to do it every quarter. This is earlier than usual, but we've got three applications that we plan on having presented for brownfield remediation work," Benton said, explaining the timing is intended to allow the county to submit when the application period opens. He added that being ready at the opening improves the county’s chances in the statewide competitive process.
Benton also updated commissioners on the land bank’s demolition and remediation work, saying the county has demolished about 20 buildings and remediated eight to 10 others. Commissioners discussed local options to fund demolition if the state program remains unfunded and mentioned exploring the use of D-Tech funds that flow into the land bank.
During administrative reports commissioners said the Sunny property (a long-abandoned house referenced in prior meetings) is now in private hands and being renovated into a home.
The board later voted to adjourn into executive session to discuss promotion and compensation of a public employee or public official, purchase and sale of property for public purposes, and collective bargaining. The motion passed by recorded vote (Benton Aye; Lewis Aye; Merrill Aye) and the board entered executive session immediately after the vote.
