On May 7 at Sunnyslope, the South Kitsap School District board read a proclamation recognizing May 2025 as Certificated Staff Appreciation Week and presented SKA awards to two district employees for their work supporting students.
Tim (staff member) read the proclamation text, urging the community to "recognize and acknowledge the contributions of certificated staff" and noting certificated staff prepare students for career or college and "keep American ideals alive by laying the foundation for global citizenship." The board recognized Cynthia Nunley, who works in special services at the high school and was nominated by Michelle McCirk for "going above and beyond helping her students" through compassionate, wraparound support. The board also honored Jennifer Mullen, who served as a substitute at Sedgwick and moved into a long-term position, where a nominator said she "went far beyond the expectations of her initial substitute role" by creating lesson plans and loading materials into Google Classroom.
Amy (staff member) also noted the district celebrated national School Nurses Day during the same week and flagged certificated staff appreciation activities and social media outreach recognizing educators across the district. Board members and staff took photos of the awardees during the meeting.
The proclamation and awards were presented during the study session; no formal vote on the proclamation is recorded in the transcript.
