TAC and Climate Action Committee see opportunities as Concord sustainability director position changes

Committee members discussed the town's ongoing Climate Action and Resilience Plan revision and the implications of a change in sustainability staff during the April 3 Transportation Advisory Committee meeting.
"The position that Eric filled is being vacated. Eric's done a phenomenal job for the town," said Alan Kafka, director of public works, noting the sustainability director post was open and that staffing shifts create both challenges and opportunities for coordinating transportation work with the Climate Action Committee.
Mark Davis and other TAC members said the Climate Action Committee (CAC) expects to work through the plan's four key pillars related to transportation: public transit, electric-vehicle adoption, electrification of school and municipal fleets, and improvements to pedestrian and bicycle accessibility and connections. Rebecca (TAC member) summarized that plan work and said CAC will invite TAC members and public volunteers to review the plan's transportation items and assess which actions have been completed and which need follow-up.
Committee members expressed concern about assignment of responsibilities in the existing plan and stressed that TAC volunteers and town staff should identify where implementation capacity is missing. Alan Kafka said the town has money for a consultant to prepare a new climate action plan and urged TAC to think about how it can contribute to transportation elements while staffing transitions occur.
Members asked CAC and staff to provide clearer guidance to TAC about how volunteers and committee members can plug into the plan update and which items will require municipal staff or consultant support. There was no formal action recorded; members agreed to follow up in future meetings and to coordinate with CAC and town staff on specific transportation-related priorities for the plan.
