Walworth County finance committee members on April 24 voted to request that staff draft a resolution opposing any potential elimination of the federal tax‑exempt status for municipal bonds and to route that draft through the Executive Committee ahead of full County Board consideration.
Committee members discussed a leaked Ways and Means Committee staff document that listed eliminating municipal bond tax exemptions as a possible revenue option. A staff presenter noted National Association of Counties alerts and recommended a resolution be drafted and presented to the County Board and to federal and state congressional delegations if the county wished to weigh in.
A committee member moved to request staff draft a resolution opposing the potential elimination of municipal bond tax‑exempt status; another member seconded and the committee approved. The presenter said staff would prepare language and circulate it through Executive Committee and the Finance Committee before bringing it to the full County Board for action in June if desired.
Supervisors suggested the resolution be explicit in opposing the elimination in order that the minutes and packet record the committee’s position clearly.
