Staff said the sidewalk relocation is bookkeeping to match what is already physically in place after the road curve was moved north as part of the Foothill revitalization. “This kinda goes back to the Flurry Foothill revitalization … the road was widened in that area, and that encroached on the Lindsay Unified School District property. So they ended up giving us basically right of way, for us to have moved the sidewalk,” said Mary, a city planning staff member.
Why it matters: formal acceptance of the right-of-way makes the sidewalk relocation official and gives the city control over maintenance and future changes. Council members also discussed parking near school sites and how the newly deeded area relates to broader school-area circulation.
City staff told the council the next step will be a parking study of school sites to guide future policy and potential capital spending. “We’ve actually talked at the last meeting, and I’ve had some communications with the city manager. We’re actually right to have a parking study done on all the school sites,” Mary said, adding that any policy or improvements would be brought back to council for direction and possible funding.
The matter was presented to the council as a consent-item housekeeping action; the motion to approve the consent calendar carried unanimously. The council did not adopt any immediate operational changes for school-hour parking as part of this vote; staff said the parking study will inform any future steps.
