City public-safety staff told the council Lindsay has open recruitments for public-safety officers and one full-time firefighter, and that two volunteer firefighters resigned recently to accept paid positions with other agencies.
Staff reported recruitment activity: about 22 applications were received for public-safety officer openings, seven met minimum requirements, and interviews were scheduled. For the firefighter position, staff said testing and selection will proceed when the recruitment calendar allows. Staff also said two of five volunteer firefighters resigned over the past weekend to take paid employment elsewhere. Two additional public-safety positions are currently frozen for budget reasons and will not be filled at this time.
Council members asked for clarification about the freeze and were told the positions are being held to manage salary costs; staff framed the freeze as a temporary measure tied to current budget constraints and not a permanent elimination of posts.
Staff noted the city is continuing recruitment and testing as appropriate and will return with updates on hires and timing. No formal emergency staffing declarations or policy changes were made at the meeting.
