Planning commission approves two Lake Campbell plats; one applicant absent

The Brookings County Planning and Zoning Commission approved two final plats on Lake Campbell during its May 2025 meeting.

The first, submitted by Tim Hogan, final-platted Lots 28 and 32 in the Turtle Bay addition on Lake Campbell (filed as 2025 plat 010). Staff said the preliminary plat had been approved June 6, 2024, and that the final plat meets requirements of the Brookings County Subdivision Ordinance, the Lake Park Zoning Ordinance and the county’s 2016 Comprehensive Plan for developed lakes. The applicant was not present; no public comments were offered. The commission voted to recommend approval; commissioners recorded ayes and the motion passed.

The second, filed as 2025 plat 011, revises four lakefront parcels in Kleinfelter’s addition after Jacob and Tara Mills purchased additional frontage from neighboring owner Marlena Walker. The resurvey creates Lot 18A at 42,517 square feet and Lot 20A at 27,028 square feet, staff said. Woodridge told the commission the subdivision (Kleinfelter’s addition) was originally platted on Dec. 7, 1965, and the final plat complies with the applicable county subdivision and Lake Park zoning rules as well as the 2016 Comprehensive Plan’s guidance on developed lakes. The applicants were present; there were no public objections and the commission approved the final plat by recorded ayes.

Motion makers and seconds for the plats were recorded in the hearing: Vanderwall moved and Paulson seconded the Turtle Bay plat; Tryon moved and Post seconded the Kleinfelter’s plat. The commission’s approval authorizes recording of the final plats per county subdivision procedures.
