The City Council approved a professional services agreement to study wastewater alternatives for the Calvin Industrial Park, including an option that would replace three existing lift stations with a single lift station and reconfigure force main and gravity pipe alignments.
City Engineer Justin Peterson described the proposal as an evaluation of an alternate route that could reduce about 9,000 feet of force main to roughly 5,000 feet of force main plus about 4,000 feet of gravity sewer. Peterson said the proposed Calvin lift station project covers roughly 400 acres and that the study will determine feasibility, routing and estimated costs.
Peterson told the council the consultant could complete the evaluation in about four to six weeks and that a subsequent design contract would follow if the option is feasible. He said the option could remove three lift stations that currently complicate development and could free up areas for more thorough buildout.
Council members asked about maintenance and lifecycle costs; Peterson said lift stations require periodic major overhaul approximately every 15–20 years and that removing smaller lift stations in favor of a single pump station could reduce staff time and maintenance demands. Peterson said, if the project proceeds, construction could begin next year with an operational target toward late 2026.
The council approved the service agreement by voice vote.
