Users of a warm-water therapy program asked the City Council on April 15 to include a warm-water therapy pool in the planned Southeast Community Center.
Debbie Peters, a longtime participant, said the warm-water pool (92–93°F) supports recovery and rehabilitation for conditions including post‑op recovery, arthritis, chronic pain and neurological conditions and urged council to include a warm-water therapy pool in the new facility. "Our warm water pool is at 92 to 93 degrees where the regular pools are 80. Warmer water temperatures for exercises are beneficial for a wide range of conditions or situations regardless of age," Peters said (Debbie Peters, public comment, 04/15/2025).
Community Services Director Dean Klinger told council the Southeast Community Center project is in the early stages of design and programming. "The warm pool would be one of those" items that could be considered as the project develops, he said, but staff "cannot commit to that at this time" because of competing demands and budget limitations (Dean Klinger, staff response, 04/15/2025).
Council members thanked the speakers and said staff would provide more detail as site planning and programming continue. No formal decision or funding commitment was made at the meeting.
