Britney Nelson, representing the Riverside venue, told the council on April 21 that the facility is stepping up marketing and expects several summer events.
Nelson said professional marketing photos are scheduled for June 2 (including a mock wedding) and that the venue will produce a marketing packet for bridal shows in Sioux Falls. She said Riverside averages about three events per month and has a large wedding in June that is expected to seat about 175 guests. Nelson said the steering committee plans to use new photographs to update the website and increase social-media promotion.
Council members and staff noted two practical limitations: the venue’s seating capacity (which can be smaller than the size of some local extended families) and a shortage of local overnight lodging, which can reduce the appeal for large out-of-town events. Nelson said she would continue outreach and that bookings to date include birthdays, graduations and district meetings.
Why it matters: Improved marketing could increase bookings and local economic activity; staff will continue to monitor capacity and logistical needs such as IT and staffing for large events.
Ending: The Riverside committee will proceed with the June 2 photography and report back on results and updated booking metrics.
