The Tupelo City Council approved a lease of approximately 2.15 acres of city-owned land for agricultural purposes, council members said during the meeting.
A city staff member told the council that the city purchased roughly 235 acres of property in February. About 20 acres of that land will be used to expand the city’s rubbish/landfill site, the staff member said, and the council approved keeping the roughly 2.15-acre parcel in agricultural use. “The two gentlemen that have been farming it for the last several years will continue to farm it at least for the next year,” the staff member said.
A council member moved to approve the agricultural lease and the motion was seconded; the motion carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
The transcript does not record lease terms such as rent amount or the names of the farmers who will continue to work the parcel, nor does it include a written lease in the meeting record.
