Board reviews midyear solid-waste budget; annual tags printing delayed by paper backorder

Park County Solid Waste staff presented a midyear budget review on Jan. 16 showing operational spending roughly aligned with expectations and several large, timing-sensitive items affecting midyear percentages.
Erica Strickland, finance director, said the budget report covers the year through Dec. 31 and noted several items that are currently recorded as zero on the statement because they are debt principal/interest and administrative fees that will pay later in the fiscal year. Capital equipment purchases totaling nearly $500,000 were not recorded as purchased this period, leaving about $700,000 available for the second half of the fiscal year. Staff cautioned that timing of payments (insurance, debt service, seasonal overtime) affects midyear percent-of-budget calculations.
Staff also told the board that annual solid-waste tags are technically effective Jan. 1 but physical tags have not been printed because the paper for the tags remains on back order; brochures were available. Staff said tags will be printed and mailed once the paper is received. No budget actions or fee changes were taken at the meeting; the board accepted the report and will review third-quarter results later in the year.
