Commissioners sign 2024 mine impact report from Stillwater operation

Park County commissioners voted Tuesday to sign the county’s 2024 mine impact report, a statutorily required summary of a mining operation’s local economic impacts and community ties.
Kevin Mitchell, who identified himself as representing Stillwater (presented in the transcript as "Servania Stillwater"), delivered the annual report for the East Boulder operation and explained that company restructuring in 2024 reduced staff at some sites. Mitchell said about “approximately 650 employees were… let go” across the company late in 2024 but that East Boulder saw a smaller reduction. He cautioned that exact numbers vary by site and year and that 2025 percentages will reflect 2024 employment data.
Mitchell also reported the mine life estimate changed in the company’s internal figures: last year’s reported estimate of 2069 for mine life has been revised to 2059 based on updated proven and probable reserves. He said percentage allocations of impacts across affected counties remained similar to prior years and asked the commission to sign the report so the company could complete regional submissions.
A commissioner moved to sign the 2024 mine impact report and the motion passed by voice vote. The commissioners did not request amendments to the document during the meeting.
