Travis Wharton, the new director of the Park County Health Department, introduced himself to the Park County Board of Health on Tuesday and outlined upcoming trainings and a process to update the county's community health needs assessment.
Wharton, who said he is a biologist and a former environmental health director in Gallatin County, told the board he has been on the job for three Tuesdays and said he looks forward to working with county residents. He summarized recent and upcoming public trainings the department is sponsoring, including a first‑aid and naloxone (Narcan) training held in Livingston and additional sessions scheduled in Clyde Park and Gardner. "The upcoming ones are from 9 to 1," he said, and invited interested residents to contact the health department to register.
Wharton also said the department will begin a community health needs assessment and a community health improvement plan; he described those as comprehensive, data‑driven reviews of housing, transportation, behavioral health, diet and other locally relevant health issues. "Everything in community health performance considered, housing, transportation, mental health concerns, general health, probably some diet, things like that," he told the public.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the assessment and the department's timeline. Wharton said an older assessment remains on the county website and that the department will engage state and local partners in updating the plan.
