The Muskegon County Community Development and Strategic Planning Committee on May 15 approved a resolution declaring May 22 of each year as Watch Muskegon Day, recognizing a county-wide campaign that promotes education, beautification and marketing efforts to improve the county’s image and attract investment.
The resolution, read aloud during the meeting, described the Watch Muskegon campaign as launched May 22, 2015 and credited its education component with supporting programs such as Muskegon STARS, the Muskegon Area Promise Program and other workforce and learning initiatives. The resolution said the campaign’s beautification and marketing components have encouraged community improvement projects, increased the county’s profile and helped spur development and investment.
The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Commissioner Cyr and supported by Commissioner Permit and carried by voice vote.
Ending: With the resolution approved, the committee encouraged residents, businesses and organizations to mark May 22 as Watch Muskegon Day each year; the resolution did not create new county programs or budgetary commitments.
