The Muskegon County Community Development and Strategic Planning Committee on May 15 approved the creation of a seasonal tourism information aide position to support increased summer visitation at Heritage Landing.
County staff said the seasonal aide will replace contracted temporary services previously provided through an agency called Good Times and will save the county roughly $1,800 compared with contracting. The position is hourly and will run this season beginning June 10 and extend into September to reflect later fall visitation, staff said.
Commissioners asked whether the cost comparison included employer taxes and benefits; staff said the seasonal position will not include benefits. Commissioners also asked about the pay grade and a numeric comparison to prior contractor costs; staff discussed a pay-grade figure during the meeting but no single precise annualized salary was provided on the record.
The motion to create the position was moved by Chair Nash, supported by Commissioner Paige and carried by voice vote.
Ending: Staff will proceed to post and fill the seasonal aide position in time for summer operations; the personnel action was authorized at the meeting.
