Finance director: General fund on track; human services to seek budget amendment

Angela Gashevsky, Muskegon County finance director, presented the March 2025 general fund budget comparison on May 13 and said the county's finances are generally on track through the midpoint of the fiscal year. "Overall, this is 6 months through the fiscal year ... we are on track," Gashevsky said.
Gashevsky pointed to a specific line for "contributions from private sources," where the budgeted amount is $3,800,000 and revenue collections were "just over 61%" as of March. She said the Human Services department will bring a budget amendment to adjust that line. "So that's what Mike's talking about when he brought that motion in human services. He's gonna be increasing that budget," she said.
On the expense side, Gashevsky noted a category that includes DTE-related expenses was at about 49% as of March, and that, excluding the forthcoming Human Services amendment, expenses year-to-date were about 46% of budget. She added that it is budget season and staff are reviewing areas that may need adjustment for the rest of the fiscal year.
No formal action was taken on the general fund report during the meeting; the presentation was provided for committee review. The item was informational and used as background for upcoming budget work and specific departmental amendments.
