Allegany County commissioners approved a sole‑source contract with Zoox Environmental Services to provide environmental maintenance services at the county jail, including biannual inspection of pump stations and annual pumping of septic and grease tanks.
Department staff said the facility originally had a failing system that was replaced with a coconut fiber bed and pretreatment filter following a Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) review several years ago. Tom Windesplees told the board the new system "is working really well" but requires ongoing inspection and maintenance. The total contract cost is $7,190.
The department characterized Zoox as a sole‑source provider because of its specialized familiarity with the jail’s systems. The board approved the resolution by voice vote.
