Northeast Allegany County hit by storms; county 911 logged 55 calls, official says

County emergency officials told the Allegany County Public Safety Committee on May 7 that a late‑week storm caused localized damage across the county’s northeast and generated dozens of emergency calls.
Bill Day reported most damage concentrated in the county’s northeast, citing Almond and communities including Alfred, Independence and Wellsville. “As of 07:00 Tuesday morning, there were 55 calls in the 911 center for assistance, either flooded basements, flooded roadways, trees down, electrical hazards,” Day said. He added there were no reported injuries associated with the storm; one woman was transported briefly for medical evaluation and was believed to have been discharged.
Day said damage assessments were ongoing and that county crews and highway superintendents had been active in the affected towns. When asked whether regional damage might trigger state or federal assistance thresholds, Day said that threshold levels were “a long ways away.”
The committee requested to be kept informed of further assessments; no formal emergency declaration or request for external assistance was recorded at the meeting.
