County OKs 2025–2028 snow-and-ice agreement with towns, sets per-mile rates

Allegany County approved a three-year snow-and-ice agreement that sets payments to towns for plowing and treating county roads from 2025 through 2028.
Under the approved memorandum of understanding, the county will pay participating towns a per-mile amount that rises across the three seasons: $4,600 per mile for the 2025–26 season, $4,800 per mile for 2026–27, and $5,000 per mile for 2027–28. The Department of Public Works said the rates reflect input from town highway superintendents and updated state cost figures.
Chair Dwight Fantin thanked the town superintendents and county staff for reaching the agreement, calling it "a win win for the county as well as these towns that take care of our roads for that." Tom Windesplees, superintendent, said the department worked with a small group of town superintendents and incorporated their feedback into the draft that was distributed in the packet.
Board members expressed a wish to bring two remaining towns into the agreement in the future; no timeline for that expansion was set. The resolution passed by voice vote.
