Allegany County updates DPW design, pauses transportation facility design; Third Floor and mail room moves temporary

Allegany County officials reported April 16 that work on multiple facility projects is at different stages: the Department of Public Works design is nearing a bid-ready state, the transportation facility design is on hold pending a state contract, and internal office moves have temporarily relocated the county mail room to the Third Floor.
County administration staff said the DPW design is proceeding and that the county plans to seek permission to bid at the Public Works meeting scheduled for June 4. "We're still on schedule for coming to public works to get permission to bid June 4," the county administration speaker said.
The transportation facility effort is paused because the county has not yet received a contract from the state that would allow the county to proceed with design work. "We don't have a contract yet from the state," the county staff member said. Without the state contract, no design work for the transportation facility has started.
On internal space, the county administration speaker said the mail room is temporarily located on the Third Floor to make room for two new economic development staff in offices on the main floor. The administration noted that the mail room could be returned to the main floor later this year if space is rearranged; staff pointed to several possible areas for re‑use, including a storage room near the elevator and an underused cloak closet.
Staff also said the county's mail machine lease is due to expire near the end of the calendar year, which could change equipment needs going forward.
Information-technology staff and the design contractor have been coordinating about building systems such as cameras and card‑swipe door access so new facilities will be compatible with existing county systems, the administration said. The administration also noted that the wastewater treatment design for a new shop remains nearly complete and will be necessary to operate the new DPW facility.
Finally, the administration asked the committee to consider a brief executive session at a future meeting to discuss proposed acquisitions, sales or leases of real property; no executive session was held during the April 16 meeting.
Committee members did not take new formal actions on these facility issues during the meeting; staff said several items remain contingent on state contracts, equipment lead times, or internal space decisions.
