Allegany County’s Ways and Means Committee on April 9 approved a three-year lease renewal with the Rushford Lake Recreation District that charges the county a $1 fee and will be backdated to Jan. 1.
The lease renewal was presented by the county administrator, who said, “This is a 3 year lease for a dollar fee. It's our normal lease renewal,” and that talks with the Lake Recreation District had reached agreement on the contract terms.
The administrator told the committee the county briefly discussed seeking an extended lease because an extended term could make the county eligible for some grants for infrastructure upgrades. “But, in talking to DPW and looking realistically at our grants and our workload, I really don't think this is the time to be applying for those. So we just ask the Lake District just to renew our standard grant terms,” the administrator said.
Committee member Root moved the lease renewal and Hadill seconded. After brief questions about the lake district’s geography — the administrator said the district covers roughly 17% in the town of Canyonia and the rest in the town of Rushford — the committee voted aye and carried the motion.
The vote recorded in the meeting was voice approval; no roll-call tally was provided. The motion authorized the county administrator to finalize the three-year lease on the presented terms.
The item was treated as a routine renewal rather than a change in policy; no further study or additional commitments were made during the meeting.
