La Paz County Board proclaims May 1 Youth Day, May 1–7 Youth Week

The La Paz County Board of Supervisors on Monday adopted Proclamation No. 2025-9 designating May 1, 2025, as Youth Day for Parker High School and May 1–7, 2025, as Youth Week.

The proclamation, presented by the chairman of the La Paz County Board of Supervisors and moved for approval by the board, notes that Parker Elks Lodge No. 1929 sponsors Youth Day in cooperation with Parker High School, the Town of Parker, the Colorado River Indian Reservation and La Paz County. The document says the event gives high school seniors opportunities to assume leadership roles in local government and private enterprise.

Reading the proclamation, the chairman praised the students who participated in the event and described the program as a practical leadership exercise. “Youth Day happened last week. It was last Thursday,” the chairman said. “She was great. And they all did a good job.” He added, “we get about an hour with them to talk to them about what they're gonna be up against and then they get this room full of their fellow students staring at them and throwing some crazy stuff at them but they handled it really well and so it was a good day and I appreciate that the Elks does this each year.”

A board member seconded the motion to adopt the proclamation. The board voted in favor; no opposition was recorded and the chairman declared, “Motion carries.” The board then proceeded to the next agenda item and adjourned.

The proclamation was presented as a ceremonial recognition of the annual Youth Day program and did not create new county policy or funding obligations.
