Commission approves application for governor’s office grant to buy body cameras; 25% city match required

The Breckenridge City Commission on Jan. 7 approved a resolution authorizing application for a Criminal Justice Division grant from the governor’s office to purchase new body cameras and related equipment for law enforcement.
The chief described the department’s current cameras as several years old, with about half of units out of service at times, and said the proposed grant would provide “top-of-the-line” body cameras, software, charging hardware and three years of technology upgrades. Staff said the grant package documented in background materials lists a total equipment cost of roughly $137,024.02 and requires a 25% cash match from the city (staff estimated that match “a little over $34,000”).
The chief and staff described expected lifecycle benefits: vendor-managed upgrades during the agreement term, centralized data storage to address local evidence-space constraints, and options for later replacement programs. The commission voted to approve the resolution; staff will proceed with the grant application and, if awarded, return with contract and match details for final approval.
