Ukiah City Council holds midyear budget workshop; finance to run April analysis, June presentations

Ukiah City Council convened a special budget workshop where finance staff and department directors reviewed midyear objectives and laid out a schedule for completing the fiscal-year 2025–26 budget.
City finance staff said departmental budget entry closed as of Monday and that April will be used for analysis, May for final preparation, and June for presentations to the council. "The budget has closed for departmental entry as of Monday. So now finance is in the process of reviewing all those budget requests, running analysis compared to available revenues and other resources," a city finance presenter said.
The workshop covered progress reports across departments and identified staffing and capital priorities that will feed the budget. Jesse, a controller in the finance office, told the council the department will begin year-end close and financial statement preparation after budget work is complete. The city manager's office will issue updated budget directives to departments before finance makes formal recommendations to the manager and council.
Council members and staff discussed logistics for upcoming hearings. Department directors were reminded to be prepared for the June presentations when each department will present its proposed budget and objectives for the coming fiscal year. The city emphasized that April will be the primary month for internal analysis and May for preparing final presentation materials.
No formal votes or ordinance actions were taken; the session served to inform the council and set the calendar for the budget process.
Looking ahead, finance staff said they will return in June with the proposed budget and departmental presentations for council review and public discussion.
