Lisonbee Talbot, PG&E’s local government relations liaison for Humboldt and Mendocino counties, told the Ukiah City Council that the utility maintains a regular emergency coordination cadence with city staff and supports local preparedness activities.
Talbot highlighted PG&E’s partnership on a backup generator at the Ukiah Valley Conference Center, which the city can use as a cooling or warming center or an emergency events center. She said PG&E’s public-safety specialist conducts trainings for first responders and that PG&E donates to the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council to enable locally informed microgrants.
Talbot described PG&E’s routine gas operations in the Ukiah area: “We conduct regular and regulated leak survey and inspections on our distribution lines, gas lines in the city of Ukiah and the transmission line that runs adjacent to or parallel to Highway 101,” and she said crews respond 24/7 to emergency calls. She also reminded residents of the 811 safe-dig program, urging a two-business-day notice before digging so utilities can mark underground lines.
On customer affordability, Talbot acknowledged recent rate increases and encouraged residents to review PG&E’s customer assistance programs, saying the company offers multiple bill-management options and free in-home gas safety inspections and pilot relights. She said PG&E is working internally to control rate increases by lowering company expenses, bundling projects and improving operational efficiency.
Council members and city staff thanked Talbot for the update and noted continuing local collaboration during storms, fires and public-safety power shutoffs.
