Community center opening delayed after persistent drainage blockage; staff estimates 2—2 weeks for fix

The change order is pending; staff estimated the work will take about 2—2 to 3 weeks once authorized and that the delay may push the opening beyond the earlier hopes. City staff said June 1 remains a safe target date but they are still hoping the center could open earlier, perhaps by the end of the month. Staff said crews had been addressing punch-list items from the reconstruction (tile chips and other blemishes) and the blockage was discovered during routine snaking of the drain. No new funding request or budget amendment for the repair was reported at the meeting; staff is awaiting the change-order paperwork to authorize work.
Council member questions focused on the likely length of the delay and whether additional issues were expected; staff replied the blockage was unexpected and they do not anticipate further problems.
