Town staff says Hillside Drive needs a separate, likely costly repair; road rehab resolution approved

The Town Council approved a consent-calendar resolution on April 8 to award plans and specifications for the town's road-rehabilitation project while town staff explained that Hillside Drive is being handled as a separate, more substantial project.
Council member Wall raised resident concerns about recent cracking and a slope slide on Hillside Drive and asked for an update. Town Manager Kevin said the town did not include Hillside Drive in this year's road-rehab list because the scope and likely cost of the work there could rival the entire planned street program.
Kevin said crews made temporary repairs after February storm damage and retained a geotechnical engineering firm to perform subsurface analysis near 231 Hillside and that additional borings are scheduled near 303 Hillside. He said the engineer is preparing design concepts and staff will return to council with plans, specifications and bids for a distinct Hillside Drive project, with the goal of completing repairs before fall rains.
Council member Wall confirmed that the homeowner near the affected area has been notified and said the approach was appropriate. The council conducted a roll-call vote and approved the consent item for the road-rehabilitation plans and specifications.
The discussion clarified that Hillside Drive remediation is likely to require separate design, bidding and funding and was not included in the list of streets advanced under the current road-rehabilitation package.
