The McFarland City Council on May 14 adopted two resolutions to finalize the engineer's report and authorize the levy and collection of annual assessments for Landscaping and Lighting Assessment District No. 1 for fiscal year 2025–26. City Manager Diego Villamontes told the council the engineer's report details the district boundaries, improvements and an annual maintenance budget of $399,005.98.
The action, contained in Resolution No. 2025-46 and Resolution No. 2025-47, completes proceedings the council previously initiated and allows the assessments to be placed on property tax bills for collection. Villamontes said the method of assessment remains within allowable maximum rates, including inflation adjustments.
During the public hearing the council opened and closed public comment with no speakers. Council members asked no substantive questions before moving the resolutions to a vote; the roll calls recorded unanimous approval.
The engineer's report, prepared for the city by Will Den Financial Services, lists the district's boundaries and the projects and maintenance activities the assessment will fund. The council adopted the levy and ordered collection under the resolutions passed at the meeting.
The approval establishes the assessment amount and the mechanism for collection for the coming fiscal year; no changes to the assessment formula were reported at the meeting.
