Columbia County approves two road namings: Starlight Lane (private) and Hammerbeck Lane (public)

Columbia County commissioners approved two separate road-name requests during the May 14 meeting, selecting Starlight Lane for a new private road serving three future dwellings and formally designating Hammerbeck Lane as the official name for a previously platted 50-foot public right of way.

Land Development Services staff summarized Road 37, noting it arises from a condition of approval for a resource dwelling-in-the-forest application (RDF 2240) and will serve three future dwellings. The applicant initially proposed names containing the word "Dairy," but staff requested alternatives to avoid confusion with existing Dairy Lane; staff recommended the applicant's third choice, Starlight Lane, and the board approved the name after hearing no public testimony.

For Road 38, staff explained that Hammerbeck Lane had been platted as a 50-foot public right of way on partition plat PP200721 but had not been added to the county's official names list. Three existing homes already use the route; the board approved Hammerbeck Lane and directed staff to readdress affected properties and notify county agencies and others, including 9-1-1, public works, fire districts and the post office.

Staff noted the 9-1-1 operations manager preferred Starlight Lane among the private-road options and the county engineer had no objection, and that the public-works and fire districts would inspect and require any necessary improvements to the newly named public road. County counsel will prepare orders for both names and return them to the board for inclusion on a future consent agenda.
