The Lead City Commission on Feb. 3 appointed Robin as interim city administrator at an annual salary of $70,000, effective immediately, while the commission completes a review of the city administrator duties and advertises the permanent position.
Mayor Billy told the commission that the council had agreed to take time to review the job duties and recruit internally before opening the vacancy to the public; in the interim the mayor recommended Robin for the role. A motion to approve the interim appointment was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
During discussion, a commissioner asked about Robin’s qualifications and supervision experience; the mayor and other commissioners said they were satisfied that Robin could perform the interim duties and emphasized the appointment was temporary while a formal job posting and hiring process are completed.
Why it matters: the interim appointment gives the city an on-site administrator to handle personnel and operational matters while the commission develops the permanent job posting and plan for recruitment.
The commission said it will post the formal job description online and accept internal applications first before opening recruitment to external candidates if the position is not filled internally. The date for the permanent-hire process was not specified at the meeting.
