Facilities director outlines year of courthouse, justice center and storage projects; department runs on 3.75 FTE

At Thursday—s meeting, the county's facilities presenter told commissioners the facilities department is a general fund department staffed at 3.75 FTE with an annual operating budget of just over $1 million and central operations based at the county courthouse.
The director outlined properties the department maintains (courthouse, justice center jail, parole and probation offices, juvenile office, health department, weed and emergency management storage facilities, road department buildings, museums, parks and the county fair). Work covers exterior maintenance (roofing, doors, siding), interior repairs (plumbing, electrical, HVAC) and life-safety systems including fire systems, security, elevators and backflow devices. The presenter also noted facilities manages janitorial services and grounds maintenance across county properties.
Recent projects included last-fall repaving of the courthouse west drive and entrance, removal of trees affecting the drive, planning-phase work to relocate planning and tech offices to a basement area, and completed exterior repainting and stainless-steel countertop upgrades at the justice center. Staff said an emergency operations addition of about 3,500 square feet at the justice center is near final engineering and could go out to bid in the coming month.
The facilities presenter described ongoing and upcoming work: a new transaction window and hardened entry for circuit court, server-room expansion in the tech area, repainting of Thirteenth Street storage buildings and completion of the road department—s 9,000-square-foot storage foundation. The presenter concluded, "So that's kind of a few things in a nutshell from our world." Commissioners and attendees thanked the facilities team for responsiveness and coverage.
