The Flandreau City Council approved several personnel and wage actions Tuesday, including a merit increase in finance, changes to police pay, a certified police hire, and new aquatic-center hires.
Cole and Finance Officer Laurie Nebone recommended a merit increase for Deputy Finance Officer Crystal Hansen to $26.78 per hour (moving from top of her scale). "Crystal has done a really nice job for us," Cole said; the council approved the merit increase.
Police Chief Zach Weber requested an update to the part-time certified police officer wage. Council approved raising the part-time certified rate from $22.60 to $27.63 per hour; staff said the change aligns part-time pay with the top of the certified scale and helps recruit experienced officers who fill temporary shifts.
Ian Parra was approved for placement at step 1 of the certified police officer wage scale at $24.87 per hour pending his certification (Lake Area Tech graduation). The council authorized his appointment and step placement.
Laurie Nebone presented additional aquatic-center hires and wage rates. The council approved a set of seasonal hires and higher pay for candidates who will obtain Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification; staff said they plan to hold pool certification locally to expedite lifeguard training and tentatively plan a June 2 pool opening.
Ending: Staff will update wage rosters and bring any additional hires or certification confirmations to the council for routine administrative approval.
