City reports strong turnout at inclusive playground event; Art Walk and farmers market set for May 3

WAVERLY, Iowa — City staff reported a well-attended opening event at the new all-inclusive playground and reminded residents that several community events fall on Saturday, May 3.
A city parks or leisure services staff member said the playground event on the previous Saturday served about 300 burgers, brat patties and hot dogs (prepared by Kiwanis) and had broad participation from the council and public. Staff also encouraged attendance at the Art Walk on May 3 — about 40 vendors expected — and noted the farmers market opens that day; a concurrent soccer tournament and other events will increase visitor traffic downtown.
The leisure services update urged residents to plan for larger crowds downtown that weekend and thanked volunteers and sponsors for event support.
