Clinton River bridge set; Riverwalk boardwalk construction underway, trustees say

Board liaisons and Department of Public Works staff told the Waterford Township Board on May 12 that the Clinton River bridge for the Riverwalk extension has been set in place and concrete poured and that boardwalk materials and pilings are on site.
Trustee Gary Wall (board liaison) said crews had begun installing screw‑in pilings—reported at roughly 24–30 feet deep—at the western boardwalk approach near Tubbs Road and Crescent Lake Road. He said the project team removed trees and stumps on the east side to extend the sidewalk, completed grading and soil compaction for an asphalt pathway and was preparing to connect the trail easement across the church property to the new bridge and into the Drayton Plains Nature Center.
Why it matters: Trustees described the work as the final construction steps to complete the Riverwalk extension and the new boardwalk over wetlands. The update also noted successful community cleanup efforts in advance of the Riverwalk opening; DPW crews collected large piles of brush, shopping carts and other debris during volunteer events.
Project status: Pilings and boardwalk structure lumber are on site, the bridge concrete has been poured and grading is underway; the township expects subsequent decking and surfacing work to follow on a construction schedule managed by DPW and contractors.
