The board approved a new multi‑year strategic plan developed with broad community input; staff will publish a public rollout and develop an implementation and monitoring plan over the summer.
The Pender County Board of Education voted to approve a new strategic plan on May 13 after a development process staff described as involving extensive stakeholder input and working sessions.
Staff said the planning process collected feedback over roughly 30 days and included parents, teachers, community partners and district staff. The plan sets four priority areas: academic excellence; investment in staff; investment in infrastructure; and investment in community partnerships. A draft front‑facing document was shown to the board as an example of the materials that will be shared publicly.
Board members praised the steering committee and staff for the inclusive process. One board member who served on the committee said, “I was able to attend all the meetings…we really had a very good showing from every aspect of every group that touches Pender County Schools.”
Next steps include developing a detailed implementation plan and monitoring framework. Staff said a public rollout will follow in June or July, and full implementation will ramp up in August and September aligned with the school year. The board directed staff to proceed with implementation planning and monitoring and approved the strategic plan by motion; the motion carried by voice vote.
