Tim Woody presented the grant for approval, describing its intended use and training component. Board members asked about conditions attached to the funding. "Are there a lot of strings attached to this?" asked Board member Brian Sloan. Dr. Lester (district staff) replied: "No. In terms of grants, it's actually one of the least restrictive ones. They even have an amount in there for that will pay for subs so that the teachers can get trained and they, you know, foot the bill for the subs. So we didn't have to sell our soul for this. No."
Ms. Kern moved to accept the grant; Ms. Haynes seconded. Chairman Knight called the vote; the board accepted the grant by unanimous vote, 7—0.
Staff said the grant includes funds to pay for substitutes to allow teachers to attend training sessions and does not require district-mandated curriculum changes beyond agreed program uses. District staff will finalize acceptance paperwork and implement the training plan in coordination with impacted schools.
