Timing and cost considerations
Shankarik said the design team and contractor (GEO) estimated the field portion could be completed in time for the fall football season if construction starts promptly; the track may come online later. Because of site-specific allowances, the project cost is higher than at other schools; the board approved the bid and the added allowances with the intention that unused allowances could be returned to the district or reallocated.
Board discussion and vote
Board members asked whether lighting or irrigation were included; staff said lighting had been upgraded at Statesville High and irrigation and stormwater treatment were not included in the base bid. The board approved the proposal 5-1. The board did not identify the negative vote by name during roll call.
