Board members and trainers also discussed the local effects of a nationwide teacher shortage. During the training session Dr. Hart reported that principals surveyed in the region identified finding qualified teachers as their top concern this fall — a point trainers used to frame the board’s choices about allocating resources between safety, staffing and academic remediation.
The superintendent’s hiring update was informational; no formal personnel approvals were made in open session. Personnel matters were addressed in closed session under North Carolina law.
